About James Ware

In June Of 1791 After Accompanying His Parents And Siblings To Kentucky, James Returned To Virginia. With The Experience And Money He Had Amassed During His Time In Kentucky, James Turned To Farming. In The Fall Of 1795, He Married Elizabeth Alexander Who Was The Daughter Of Colonel Morgan Alexander Who Was An Officer In The Revolutionary War. Elizabeth's Mother Was Sarah Snickers Alexander Who Was The Daughter Of Elizabeth Taliaferro And Edward Snickers Who Was A Very Wealthy Planter And Landowner In Frederick County. The Town Of Bluemont Was Formerly Names Snickersville. The Snickers Were Obviously A Very Wealthy And Prestigious Family In Virginia. Their Son, (Elizabeth's Brother) Married Frances Washington Who Was The Daughter Of Warner And Mary Whiting Washington Who Was First Cousin To General George Washington.

James Was Twenty-Five And Elizabeth Was Twenty-Two Years Old When They Married On The 10 Of November, 1796. On The 10 Of November, 1803, Four Hundred And One Acres Of Edward Snickers Land Was Sold To James Ware And Elizabeth Alexander Ware For The Amount Of 14,011.00 Dollars. This Farm Was The Heart Of Edward Snickers Enterprise And It Contained The Ferry Dock, The Tavern, The Blacksmith's Shop And At Least One Mill. Edward Snickers Legacy Lived On When His Great Grandson, Josiah William Ware, Who Was The Son Of James Ware III And Elizabeth, Amassed Another Large Estate In Land Based In Large On His Inheritance From His Grandmother, Sarah Alexander Snickers Who Died In 1824.

James III And Elizabeth Built A Lovely Home Called "Riverside" Which Overlooked The Shenandoah River. It Was Nestled At The Foot Of The Blue Ridge Mountains. Riverside Was Built Out Of Grey Stone And Was About A Story And A Half With Dormer Windows. Riverside Was Held In The Family For Six Generations And Still Stands To This Day. James And Elizabeth Had Three Children Who Survived To Adulthood, #1 - Sarah Elizabeth Taliaferro Alexander Ware - Born 1 October 1797, #2 - Charles Alexander Ware - Born 3 July 1800, #3 - Josiah William Ware - Born 18 August 1802. Their Mother Elizabeth Died On The 29 Of August 1806 At The Age Of Thirty-Two. James Did Marry Again Several Years Later.
