About James Glenn Weaver

• Martha Weaver Marshall (mwmarva@aol.com) wrote Pam Wilson on 4/13/2017: “The story of my great grandparents James Glenn Weaver and Martha is most interesting and a bit scandalous. We know they married in 1897 after they both left Green River plantation and resettled at Sandy Plains. Their first son, Samuel Boyce Weaver was born in March 0f 1870 while James G. Weaver's first wife Margaret Carson was still alive. (all of them lived at Green River plantation which must have been a most interesting situation). A second son John Dexter Weaver was born in 1872. James G. Weaver was indeed overseer of Green River Plantation but in 1861 (following the death of plantation owner Joseph Carson) he married Margaret Carson and effectively took over the plantation. I can share more about Green River and James G. Weaver if that is of interest. There's also a very good book by Robin Lattimore about Green River. Various relatives have seen the census records from 1850 and we have wondered about our Martha's heritage. Why was she sometimes called Huntsinger (on her marriage license in 1897 for example) while some family members suggest she was an Edwards. Is Mary the washerwoman her true mother or is she somehow a daughter of an Edwards family? I am very interested to find more documentation to try to identify her parents correctly. And we all wonder what (if anything) prevented James G. and Martha from marrying after wife Margaret died in 1870.”
