Katherine Wells of the state and city aforesaid being of lawful age, on her oath says that she is the wife of Levi Wells and that on the night of the 26th of September last part the rebels came to their house and called at the door. We opened the door we saw two rebel Captains standing at the door who told Wells to go out and show them the way to the Store house. Wells told them he was afraid and that he didn’t want to go- they then cursed him and told him that he had to go. They said that they would let him come back & that he should not be hurt, he then told them that if they let him come back, he should have to go, but that he did not like to go. They then took him off, about one hundred yards from the house and kept him there under guard until ????lighten.. after they had taken him off, one of the captains came back and asked me my husbands name, I told him my husbands name was Levi Wells, he then ordered the other captain to pencil it down, one of the captains then asked me my husbands politics.
