About James William Smith Jr.
Info from Ancestry.com (Karen Farmer's kin)
ID:1002
Had many medical problems. Part of his stomach was surgically removed & he could only eat small amounts at any one time. He wore glasses, smoked all his life & was very thin.
He was "4F" on the health list so he did not have to serve in the armed forces during the war, however he did work in a munitions factory in Ontario.
He built a lot of houses & buildings in his lifetime & was a wonderful carpenter. He loved tools & collected many of them building each a special box or holder. Everything he owned he wrote his name or initials on & often where he had purchased it, the date & how much he paid.
He did janitor work at several schools in B.C. & then for several businesses in the town of Westlock when he moved to the prairies.
He had to have his leg amputated a few years before his death - a result of emphysema.
He & Mildred were married by Rev. Ritchie Bell inTruro, N. S. The witnesses to the marriage were Susanna Smith & LeVaughn Tucker.
