Jan Cornelissen, from the City of Hoorn about 20 miles north of Amsterdam, was in New Amsterdam by June 1645.
He was a citizen of New Amsterdam in 1657.
He was the third teacher of the public school of the Dutch Reformed Church in New Amsterdam, beginning his duties sometime in 1648 and resigning in November 1650.
He signed his name “Jan Cornellisson Van Hoorn.”
His wife, Hillegond Joris, had an illegitimate daughter baptized on 1643 in the New Amsterdam Church.

Arrived in New Amsterdam as a minor, before June 1645. According to the DAR bona fides for Frances Van Horn Burns published in Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania, vol. 2 (Lewis, 1911), p. 983, "Another son of Jan Cornelissen Van Hoorn was: Cornelis Jansen Van Horn, who married October 4, 1659, Anna Maria Jansen and had children baptized in New York, namely Johannis and Gerrit. Gerrit . . . was baptized December 17, 1671. He married, July 1691, Elsie Provost and had issue."
