Jan Laurensen Low

Jan "John" Low was baptized 29 Apr 1685 New York City. He moved near Readington, NJ in Amwell Township, Hunterdon County where he was a deacon of the Reformed Dutch Church of Readington, NJ. His will wa made 9 Mar 1728 and probated 30 May 1729. He married Jannetie "Yannaca" Corsen/Corsse 29 May 1707, dau. of Jan CORSZEN and Metje CRAY.

They had the following children:

1. Lourens (Lawrence) Low born about 1711. His will was made 6 May 1764 and was probated Nov 1764. He married Geertje Rosa. Their children were John, Gysbert, Henry, Jannetje, Charity, Wynca and Elizabeth Lowe.

2. Gysbert Lowe was baptized 9 Oct 1714 Raritan, NJ. He married to Prisila ___.

3. Benjamin Lowe was baptized 17 Oct 1716 Somerset CO., NJ. He married Neeltje "Cornelia" Van Nest. Their issue were: Pieter, Jan, Janneke, Cornelius, Benjamin, Gisbert and Isaac Lowe.

4. Cornelius J. Lowe was born about 1718. He married Johanna Jansen.

5. Marytje Lowe was baptized 4 Apr 1719 Somerset, NJ and married 1749 to Jan Kool (Cole).

6. Wenitje "Lavina" Lowe was baptized 4 Apr 1721 Somerset, NJ.

7. Metje "Mary" Lowe was baptized 18 Aug 1723 Somerset, NJ.

8. Teunia Louw was baptized 3 Apr 1728 Harlngen, Somerset, NJ. He married to Maayke "Mary" Hall.

Apparantely, the sir name became Low(e) and Laurens (or a derivative thereof) when the English took control of New Amsterdam (New York) where this family was living in the late 1600's.

an Laurensze LOW, baptized 29 April 1685, son of Laurens JANSEN and Mary ROOSA, married 20 June 1707, to Jannetie CORSEN, daughter of Jan and Metje (CRAY) CORSZEN. They had eight children: Gysbert LOW m. Persila --?--; Lawrence LOW m. Geertje ROOSA; Benjamin LOW m. Neeltje Van NEST; Cornelius LOW married Johanna JANSEN; Marytje, m.1749, Jan KOOL; Wenitje "Lavina"; Metje; and Teunis LOW m. Maayke "Mary" HALL.

Notes:

Lawrence Low, born in 1698, m. June 12, 1725, Jannetje, daughter

of Marinus Roelofs van Vleckeren, of Bloomingdale. He suc-

ceeded to his father's lands at Harlem, which his brother Albert,

as heir at law, released to him Dec. 8, 1731, and he also made

several considerable other purchases. He made his will in 1754,

which was proved Nov. 4, 1755, by which his widow was to en-

joy his estate during her life, but ten years before her death,

which was in 1772, her two sons made a formal division of the

property, and sold some of it, whence it would appear they had

acquired the interests of their mother and sister.

Their children were, Dinah, Marinus and John.
