Jan Petrus Meyer

Jan Meyer was the first of their family to achieve a degree. He bought their family farm, Rietfontein, today the Bloemhof Dam, piece for piece back. He build the house of his parents, himself.

Jan Meyer first got his TO2 teachers diploma and went on to study part time for his BA degree.

Dad's Bible and God was his first priority.

Family played a major role in the life of Jan Meyer.

He was very traditional. He served on several committee's in Bloemhof. He was the master brain behind the building of a school for the black neighbourhood and succeeded in this. The building of a own hospital for Bloemhof was another passion he fulfilled. therefore we as children feel quite glad that their house is today the Bloemhof clinic. He was a very strict but fair father who always wanted the very best for his family and until the very end he took pride in his family, children and grand children. At the age of 79 he build a flatlet and garage to their house.

At the age of 81 he developed cancer and part of his stomach, liver and pancreas was successfully removed.

A few days after his 86th birthday he fell and broke his hip and had to undergo a hip replacement operation from which he recovered 100 percent.

On Good Friday, while praying, he quietly slipped into his death.
