About Jane Church
- Updated from MyHeritage Family Trees via husband Henry Church by SmartCopy: Feb 2 2015, 0:54:43 UTC
The marriage of Jane Archer whom married Henry Church is very well documented. (see: History of Greene County, Pa. Whisky insurrection. Chapter III)
Jane Archer's Mother would be Sophia McClelland, or there is a possibility of a wife before her, but is is speculative at best.
Daughter of Capt James Archer and Jane (Lincicome) Archer?** No, Jane Lincicome is most likely 3rd wife. Jane would belong to the first wife. Whom ever that is...Sophia, possibly but records lack proof.
I am currently reading George W Archers work, and he is strongly suggesting that the Mother is "Sophia McClelland?" and possibly none of the children belong to Jane Lincicome", and Sophia's last name being McClelland is questionable at this point. I strongly recommend reading "Patrick Archer and his Descendants" by George W Archer. P.O. Box 6233 McLean, VA 22106 http://www.archercousins.com/ArcherAssn/

- *There is a possibility that James Archer had a first wife before Sophia McCLelland. It is believed that during the indian massacre in which Jane (Archer) Church was savagely attacked, that her sisters were killed, and possibly her mother was killed unless she died prior to them coming to the area.** George W Archer writes,. One oral account handed down almost 100 years after the indian massacre describes James first wife as dying in Ireland. According to this account, two to three daughters of this first marriage were killed by the Indians, but "Jennie" (possibly Jane) survived the scalping, married and had many children. "This first marriage account is suspect because of James Surviving children, all were born about the time James was living in Washington Co., PA."
Jane Archer is recorded in several books on the "History of Greene County, Pennsylvania" and in the "Tenmile Country and its Pioneering Families" by Leckey. Jane (Archer) Church was a pioneer and a survivor of the Indian wars and raids.
Jane Archer (1778-1816) was Married to Henry Church (1779–1851) "Greene County, Pennsylvania, USA"
"The next name on this record is Jane Archer, the first wife of Old Mr. Church,[Henry Church] whose ancestors had almost all been slaughtered by the merciless Indians - born February 20, 1778".
About 1783 Indians fell upon the families of Robert McClennan (McClelland and James Archer, whose families lived in the same cabin, about three fourths of a mile from Fort Jackson. They came on a foggy morning. Eight or nine of the two families were killed, a few escaped. Jane Archer, a small girl was tomahawked and scalped, and left for dead but recovered".(*)
