Jane McKee

Jane (AKA Jean, Jennet or Jeannet) Telford (or Tedford) is the daughter of Alexander Telford/Tedford and Hannah "McCampbell" or "McCune." Some sources says she was born "19 Oct 1754" (I haven't seen data in quotes documented as yet.). She married James Logan McKee on 6 June 1782 in Kerrs Creek, Augusta Co., VA (now in Rockbridge Co.). They applied for a marriage bond on 3 June 1782. Rev. Brown married them (Marriages of Some VA Residents, 1607-1800, Dorothy Ford Wulfeck, 1897-?, p 223).

Alexander "Tedford" signed his daughter Jane's (written Jeannet Tedford) Rockbridge Co. marriage bond, on 3 Jun 1782. The bond was also signed by James McKee who paid £50 on the same day to the Virginia Commonwealth, using her name, Jennet Tedford. This is the only time I've seen her name listed as Jennet or Jeannet. See photo on her husband's site with both spellings.

They had a son John Telford McKee on 14 April 1783 in Kerrs Creek.

Unknown to me, they also had a daughter Elizabeth McKee, born Dec 1795 in VA and died 1828 in Millersburg, KY. She married Abner Cosby on 7 Apr 1816. See DAR Ancestor #: A077470 ( Nat'l #: 428702 for KBJ James). Needs verification.

I took the group photo of graves in August 1999. Jane's is in the center, but I can no longer make out the names on the markers on both sides.

August 1999, I believe her gravestone says:

In memory of JANE T. McKEE wife of JAMES L. McKEE Who died Aprl 30th 1800 in the 46th year of her age

Note: I have estimated her birth year to be ABOUT 1754 based on the age on the gravestone.
