Her mother came from Ireland to West Virginia when a baby. Jane was the mother of 9. John (married Sarah Mayhan, then Olive Electra Smith) born in Virginia in 1834, Harriet (Married George Mahon) Virginia 1835, Ira Virginia (married Olive Electra Smith) 1839, Hiram (married Manewa then Minerva Ives) Virginia 1839, Elvira (married William Lear) Virginia November 1842, Milton (married C. Sarah Hensley) Virginia 1845, and twins Joseph Hamilton ( married Gertrude C. Gamble, appears on Gunnison, Gunnison Co. Colorado in 1880), Samuel W. (married Diantha), and William Hall (Married Eva Martha Miller) February 14 1847 Virginia. The family is listed in 1850 Census for Peoria, Stark County, Illinois. Also listed with the family is a James H Newton age 28 born in Virginia. Stark County Illinois Petition Sale of Real Estate is signed by Jane M. Newton; guardian of William H Newton, Charles F Newton & Laura B Newton, October 9 1869 and Warranty Deed Jasper County Iowa 160 acres more or less October 16 1869. This would be the date they moved from Illinois to Iowa. Note Charles Frank and Laura B are the children of Jane Newton's oldest son, John Newton.
