Jane Speake

Jane's last name may be Briscoe, Barton or Smoot. It might also be "Beckworth/Beckwith".

Speak/e/s Family Assoc. Bulletin, v. 15, n. 2, Dec. 1993, p. 11. -Name given as "Jane Briscoe, Barton or Smoot", so there is some confusion on the last name. Patrick Anderson's records also indicate Jane SMOOT.

At the moment I cannot tell you the reasoning behind the speculation that the maiden name of the Jane who married Thomas Speake was either Barton or Smoot (or Briscoe). The information was sent to me by someone else with no explanation. In the familytreemaker WFT someone has her definately as Smoot. I haven't written to them as yet, most WFT lines aren't very well researched. According to this source Jane (mnu) was born in 1713. I do not know when she died. I have just begun working on this line which is why I joined the list. Hope that she might show up on the "disstaff" side, possibly among Bartons or Smoots. I will post more when I know more.
