About Jane Stoddard Williams

From Bloomberg.com:

Jane Stoddard Williams is the host and producer of Bloomberg EDU, Bloomberg Radio's weekly look at education.

As host of Bloomberg EDU, Jane Stoddard Williams combines the two great passions of her professional life: education and media.

A veteran education and children's advocate, she currently serves as National Board Chair of Horizons Student Enrichment Program, a non-profit educational organization serving low-income students around the country. She previously served as Board Chair of the founding Horizons program in Connecticut. She is a member of the board of New York's PBS station WNET, where she chairs the Education Committee. She is the former Board President at the New Canaan Country School in New Canaan, Connecticut -- where her own mother taught, allowing Jane to attend on full scholarship. She is a former member of Duke University's Council on Women's Studies, and has most recently served on the Board of Brooklyn-based Wireless Generation, a for-profit education and technology company.

Jane Stoddard Williams has spent most of her career working in television and radio. She is a former producer of the PBS Series, "Inside Story" and was Executive Producer of "Panorama" in Washington, D.C., Washington’s longest-running daily news and public affairs program. She has been a producer at WHYY-TV and KYW-TV in Philadelphia, and has hosted a local interview program, "One On One" in Southwestern Connecticut. She began her radio career at WICC-AM in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Jane graduated magna cum laude from Duke University, with a degree in Political Science and Russian Language. She worked in the U.S. State Department Bureau of Intelligence and Research, and later at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Jane's family is steeped in education, going back several generations. Her mother was a teacher and administrator. Her father, a former School Board Chairman, helped to create and build New York's PBS station. Her maternal grandmother chaired the School Board in the City of Detroit. Her paternal grandparents began as teachers in rural Nebraska. Her Grandfather, Alexander Stoddard, went on to become a leader of public education in the United States. He first gained prominence as Superintendent of Schools in Bronxville, New York, where he implemented John Dewey’s groundbreaking theory of "progressive education.” Later, he ran some of the nation's largest public school systems including Philadelphia, Denver and Los Angeles. Alexander Stoddard was among those called upon by the State Department and General MacArthur to assess and recommend changes to the school system in Japan following World War II.

Jane and her husband, NBC Nightly News anchor and managing editor Brian Williams, have raised two children and live in Connecticut.
