Janet Webster Doremus

Janet was born in the town of Springport, New York the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mattie Webster Davis and resided in Union Springs for most of her life.

Janet took part, at age 10, in the candle lighting ceremony representing the 5th generation of the Davis association with the "White" Presbyterian Church at Union Springs, New York..

She was a member of the high school basketball & tennis team, Yearbook Staff and voted most popular and most athletic girl in her senor year of high school. She was Proctor of the S.P.Q.R. (Latin Club) in high school.

It was written in "The Frontenac" year book of Union Springs High School 1935---Janet Davis, jolly an gay, works with a will all day and when it comes to basketball she stands high above them all.

Janet was a graduate of Union Springs High School Class of 1935 and the Eastman School of Dental Hygienist Class of 1938. 1939/40 Janet received from the State Board of Dental Examiners, her certificate as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Prior to her marriage she was employed by Doctor Horton as a dental assistant. After marrying she helped her husband as a research assistant for his art work.

She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, the Leisure Hour Literary Club and the Adult discussion Group of the Springport Presbyterian Church.

Janet suffered a stroke on May 25, 1996. loosing the ability to easily speak and died on Thursday October 22, 1998 at Mercy Health and Rehabilitation Center, Auburn N.Y. Janet is survived by Robert, her beloved husband of 57 years, her son Malcolm and his children Caitlin and Matthew; her daughter Sara "Sally", and her husband Dillwyn, and their children, Gregory, a teacher at Southern Cayuga County, Benjamin, a student Springfield College, and Jesse, a student at R.I.T. in Rochester, N.Y, and her sister, Frances.
