James Linklater, senior, residing at Beafield, and Jane Hourston, his spouse, seised in fee and liferent respectively, April 19, 1845, in two farthings and two thirds of a cowsworth of land under the house of Middlebigging, in the town of Grimbister, parish of Firth, on disposition by the trustees, with the consent of the commissioners of the sequestered estate of John Miller of Millquoy and Ralph Fotheringhame, Messenger at Arms, Kirkwall, October 24, 1844. Erected to the memory of James Linklater of Midbigging who died 3rd January 1866 aged 74 years. Also his beloved wife Janet Hourston who died 24th May 1867 aged 73 years. Also their grandson, Thomas Linklater, who died at Midbigging 29th March 1941 [Memorial Inscripion in Finstown Cemetery, transcription by Neil Reid Ford, 13th August 1977].
