MALONEY -- Janet Ellen Riney, 71, of Bartlesville, died on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Born on September 26, 1932, she grew up in Bartlesville, graduating from College High School before going on to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Smith College in Massachusetts in 1954, followed by a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Illinois in 1972. In the early 1950's, Janet worked as a Programmer for IBM. She then entered a 20 year Teaching career in Chicago, northern Virginia and Bartlesville, where she taught Mathematics at College High School. In 1978, she became a Realtor and was an Agent with McAnaw Realtors for many years. She inherited her love of ranching along with her interest in soil stewardship from her parents, A. H. and Margaret Riney. She devoted herself to the cause of soil conservation on behalf of the Caney Valley Conservation District, serving as a Director since 1980. She was an accomplished pianist and was for some time the organist at St. John Catholic Church, where she was a member. She held various positions on the Bartlesville Board of Realtors and was a sustaining member of the Service League of Bartlesville. Janet is survived by 2 sons, John Michael Maloney of Chicago and his wife, Cathy; Daniel Riney Maloney and his wife, Linda of Bartlesville; and by her daughter, Jeanne Marie Maloney of Brasilia, Brazil and her husband, Andrew Dowdy. She is also survived by her 2 sisters, Joanne Bennett of Bartlesville and her husband, Richard J. Bennett and Jeanne Froeb of Tulsa and her husband, Charles Froeb; and by 5 grandchildren, Katherine and Daniel Dowdy, Thomas Maloney and Kevin and Ryan Thompson; as well as 4 nieces, Janet Froeb, Edith Coen, Julie Phillips and Meg Bennett; and 2 nephews, Riney and Kevin Bennett. She was predeceased by her daughter, Joanne Margaret Maloney. She was a lifelong friend to her Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority sisters and to many others in the Bartlesville community. Throughout her life, she remained proud of her Irish ancestry. A Rosary was said for Janet at St. John Catholic Church on Thursday night, May 20, at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass prior to burial will be said for her on Friday morning, May 21, at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Father Stephen Austin officiating, with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Neekamp Funeral Home.
