About Janis Eileen Nysoe

From the Herring-Groseclose Funeral Home:

Longtime Walla Walla resident and realtor, Janis Nysoe, passed away at the age of 89 on May 25, 2013 at the Dayton Booker Rest Home. Janis, a third generation Columbia County native was the eldest daughter of Dewey C. Donohue and Marguerite Hopkins Donohue. Raised on the family wheat ranch on Lewis Gulch road, Janis and her siblings developed ties to their land on the Highlands and Tucannon River. Family time consisted of hard work, plenty of good food, singing around the piano and later lively political discussions. Janis met Glen Everett Nysoe while bowling in Spokane. They married Sept. 15, 1946 and Glen and Janis soon joined the family farming operation on the Highlands where they raised four sons. Glen passed away April 29, 1965 and Janis was left to carry on.

Janis took an active supportive role in local and state politics not only for her father Dewey and brother Hubert, both who served in the Washington State Senate representing South Eastern Washington, but later the local Walla Walla County Democratic Party.

Janis was a member of the Ladies Dayton Bridge Club for over 60 years and a member of the Walla Walla Crystals. She always looked forward to her annual “Cousins Weekends” or traveling with family. Janis enjoyed cooking, the Mariners, Priest Lake summers, her motorhome, blackberry and huckleberry picking, antiques, gardening and entertaining her Frankland Street neighbors. You could count on Janis to always wear a fabulous pair of shoes and something with glitz!

Janis is survived by three sons, Dain (Claudia) Nysoe of Dayton, Jock Nysoe of Dayton and Jason Nysoe of Spokane, Washington. She was a grandmother to Brent (Tara) Nysoe of Seattle, Haley (Travis) McSpadden of Spokane, Tyler (Laura) Nysoe of Maple Valley and Hannah Nysoe of Spokane, Washington. Janis was great grandmother to Isabelle, Emma, Julian, Anna and Dane. Janis is also survived by sister, Dwyla Donohue of Seattle; brother-in-law, Theron Smith of Walla Walla and cousins, Patty Erickson of Edmonds and Eualie Schreck of Dayton. She was also Auntie Janis (AJ) to numerous, much loved nieces and nephews.

Janis was preceded in death, not only by her parents and husband Glen, but son, Greg Nysoe, brothers Hubert (Evelyn), and Pat (Muff) Donohue as well as Sister, Sharon Smith and nephew Ryan Donohue.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Glen Nysoe Cancer Fund through the funeral home.
