Janvier-Arthur Vaillancourt (born on February 25 , 1851 in Saint-Janvier-de-Blainville (currently part of Mirabel ) and died in Montreal on December 24 , 19281 ) was a Canadian merchant and banker.
Biography
January-A. Vaillancourt wss the founder (1879) of the Compagnie J.-A. Vaillancourt Limitée, one of the largest wholesale grocery stores in Canada.
He was vice-president (1910-1912), then president (1912-1925) of the Bank of Hochelaga (based in Montreal). He was the architect of the integration of this bank into the new Canadian National Bank in 1925 (which in 1979 became the National Bank of Canada). He was the 1 st President (1925-1928) of the National Bank of Canada.
