Jared Bourn

Jared Bourne was born in 1651, baptized on March 7, 1651/2 the son of Jared Bourne and his 2nd wife whose name is unknown.[1]

He married Elizabeth Brayton by 1690.[1]

Jared Bourn passed away in 1718.[2]

Bourn Cemetery is located on the east side of Co. Street between South and Bourn Streets. The cemetery area 150 X 150 bounded by a stone wall and a entrance gate that has a metal sign reading "BOURN". The cemetery is well kept with most of the head stones in good condition. There are about 10 stones that are missing. These were more than likely the graves and Jared (2) and family. Across the street was once the location of Stephen Bourn's home. The Bourn family owned two parcels of land as indicated on a map found in the local library. According to the Will of Jared Bourn the family seemed to have some wealth. "To all people to whom these presents shall come--Zacheriah Eddy, of the Town of Swanzy, in the County of Bristol in her Majestys Province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England, yeoman, sendeth Greeting , Know ye that the aforesaid Zacheriah Eddy hath for the sum of F40 current money by him in hand Received & well & truly payd by Jared Bourn of ye aforesaid Swanzy, Husbandman, wherewith the said Zacheriah Eddy doth acknowledge himself sufficiently satisfied & fully absolutely payed & thereof & every part & percell thereof,---a certain percell of land containing about 36 acres situate, lying, being, & belonging to Shawomet purchass in said Swanzy lying in the outlof & being numberd 16 together with all & singular a full whole and compleate share of all undivided land in the said outlof of said purchass. To have and to hold the aforsaid parcell of land containing about 36 acres."
