Jasper C. Dabbs, 88

MUNCIE - Jasper C. Dabbs, 88, passed away on Saturday morning, July 16, 2016 surrounded by his family at Golden Living Center.

He was born on March 21, 1928 in Reidsville, North Carolina, the son of Jesse and Mary (Hodges) Dabbs.

Jasper bravely served in the United States Army at the age of twelve, he was discharged December 10, 1941 at the age of thirteen. He grew up working with the carnival he holds the record of one hour and forty-five minutes for taking down and loading a Ferris wheel on the truck for Jimmy Chanos. He married Martha Shannon on April 18, 1952 in Monroe, Michigan.

Mr. Dabbs was a strong, hardworking, family man, proudest of his family. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, he loved working on cars, camping, traveling, building race cars, and going to Cedar Point. He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God and Muncie South Foursquare Church for over fifty years he loved his church family.

Jasper retired from Frank's Foundry after twenty-six years of service and he also retired from Meijer after ten years. He was also a truck driver for several years and transported cars for several dealerships. He loved his family and raised numerous foster children. All of which were raised on Dr. Pepper and Red Cream Soda.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Martha Dabbs of Muncie; four children, Roy Dabbs of Muncie, James O'Neil Dabbs of Muncie, Bonita Gronendyke of Yorktown and Mary J. Dabbs of Muncie; siblings, Mae Ola Dabbs Parker and O'Neil Irvin Dabbs of North and South Carolina; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous foster children and step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas Dabbs and Reedie Dabbs; and sister, Lenora Dabbs Sutherland.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 3001 Burlington Drive, Muncie, with Pastor Kevin Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery.

Friends may call on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel or one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
