About Jeanne de Luxembourg

She was called "The Demoiselle de Luxembourg" She inherited Saint-Pol and Ligny upon the death of Philip I, Duke of Brabant,14 August 1430. When her nephew, John, held Joan of Arc as prisoner, she pleaded with him not to hand the "Maid of Orleans" over to the English, but under considerable political pressure, he accepted the sum of 10,000 Livres rather than heeding his aunt's pleas. Her nephew inherited Ligny upon her death.

The Demoiselle is a character in Philippa Gregory's 2011 historical novel The Lady of the Rivers, which centres on her great-niece Jacquetta of Luxembourg.
