Anne could have been a sister or daughter of Jeffrey Gooch. John and Anne Johnson, and possibly children Jeffrey and Anne may have been in the party of 10 that Jeffrey Gooch transported to America before 1641. [1]

The erroneous conclusion or opinion that Ann, the wife of John Johnson was the daughter or wife of Jeffrey Gooch appears to be based on the abstract of Beverley Fleet that states "young John Gooch" (son of Samuel Gooch and his wife Ann (Johnson) Gooch, sister of Jeffrey Johnson) sued his uncle Jeffrey Johnson senior. The truth is that Jeffrey Johnson was the uncle of young John Gooch, since he was the brother of John Gooch's mother. [2]
Jeffrey Gooch received a grant of 500 acres at the falls of the James River, near the present site of Richmond; he later exchanged this land for 500 acres on the south side of Great Wicommocco River on Vent Creek, now called Barretts Creek in Wicommocco Parish. The Gooch and Johnsons were neighbors. The daughter of John and Anne Johnson, Anne married Samuel Gooch, the son of John and Katherine and nephew of Jeffrey Gooch. [3]
