About Jehu Mosher

Jehu is also my 4G GRANDFATHER. Because his Grandson Frederick Currie Sanford married Venora Mosher whose great grandfather was Jehu's father James Mosher.

Jehu had a reputation of being a strong man. (Per the Mosher Genealogy) On one occasion he carried an anchor for 30ft without breathing with the anchor raised to his shoulders.

(He won the bet)

He an Hannah had 12 children before she died at age 44. He remarried Eleanor and had 10 more children before dying at age 96.

He is buried at the Old Newport Burying Ground at the top of the hill overlooking the bay.

Jehu is also my 5G Uncle because his grandson Frederick Currie Sanford Married Venora Mosher and her Great Grandfather James is Jehu's father.

GEDCOM Note

Jehu had the reputation of having extraordinary strength. "It is said of him that he carried an anchor for a wager that weighed nearly 500 pounds 30 feet on a wharf. It was raised to his shoulder, and he walked the 30 feet. Said he did not breath while the anchor was on his shoulder, and his feet burst out from his thin shoes, which were new. This was all the harm done. He gained the bet, and lived until he was 97 years old." (from the Chronological History of the Mosher Family by William Mosher)
