Jennie W. Hoogland

COTTONWOOD Jennie W. Hoogland, 88, a longtime Grangeville rancher, died Wednesday April 12, 1995 of causes related to age at St. Mary's Hospital at Cottonwood.

She was born Dec. 29, 1906, at Manhattan, Mont., to John and Hilje Kraima Workman. As a young girl she moved with her family to Amsterdam, Idaho, before moving in 1915 to Grangeville, where she went to school.

She married James Hoogland Dec. 23, 1925, at Manhattan. They lived in Montana for a short time before returning to Grangeville, where they ranched for many years and retired in 1969.

She enjoyed sewing, making quilts and rugs, gardening, crocheting and playing bingo. She attended Grangeville Christian Reformed Church and was a member of the Grangeville Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her husband of Grangeville; two sons, James Hoogland Jr. of Kendrick and John Hoogland of Grangeville; two daughters, Hilda Kaufmann of Grangeville and Margaret Howell of Lewiston; two sisters, LaVina Likkel and Clara DeHaas, both of Grangeville; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

One sister and three brothers died previously.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Noland Funeral Home at Grangeville. Burial will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery at Grangeville. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Noland Funeral Home.
