Obituary (July 1891): Death has again entered the home of our neighbor and taken from them their only remaining child. Jesse E., son of Walker and Mary B. Barto, was born Oct. 30th, 1888 and died July 6, 1891, aged 2 years, 8 months, and six days. On Sunday, June 23, their only daughter was buried (as has already been stated,) and the next day little Jesse was tricken with diptheria and in one short week he too was taken. He did not suffer so much pain as his sister, and remained conscious until the last; even after his eyes had been dimmed by death, he would say "Mamma, where are you, I cannot see you?" He was laid to rest beside Bertha on Tuesday July 7. Short serviced were held at the cemetery where friends had gathered to show the deep sympathy which all feel for the parents who are thus bereft of the hearts' dearest treasures. Only those who may have had a similar experience can have any conception of their lonliness, and we would say to the sorrowing parents, Mourn not for the child from thy tenderness riven, Ere stain on its purity fell. To they questioning heart, lo! an answer from heaven. Is it well with the child? It is well.
