About Jesse Edwin Clifton, Sr.
Jesse Edwin Clifton, Sr. was born in Weston, TX in 1894. Weston is in Collin county at the intersection of FM 543 and FM 455, about 13 miles northwest of McKinney, and 8 miles east of Celina. Weston is the oldest town in Collin county and one of the oldest in north Texas.
Jesse Edwin, Sr's father John took the family to El Paso sometime between 1900-1906. John was doing contract work for the government at Ft. Bliss as a carpenter. Jesse Edwin, Sr.'s sister Winifred (Winnie) was born in El Paso in 1906 and they were still living there in 1910 during the US Census.
In June 1917 JE Sr. listed Ft. Worth as his home on his draft registration card and served with the US Army during WWI.
Later he married Ethel Jane Standiford and they had one son, Jesse Eugene Clifton in 1919. According to the US Census, in 1920 they were living in Ft. Worth in their own household with a boarder, Joe Plumber and Gene, who was 10 months old when the census was taken.
They were divorced sometime between 1920 and 1925 and he married Countess in 1925 with whom he had another three sons. They divorced in the mid 1950s.
He worked on the Rock Island railroad as a brakeman until he fell under a train and lost an arm in the early 1950s. Wilma Charoline Watts says in her family history notes that he also worked for the T & P Railroad. Census records list his occupation as railroad conductor.
