I guess I can add a little more to this. In the 1860 census of Morgan Twp,
Harrison County, Indiana there are two households for "J.M. Jamison" both
with wives named Mary. One of these includes the children Lewis and
Cynthia, ages 4 and 2 respectively and the occupation of the head of this
household is blacksmith.
OK, turning back to the 1850 Census of Harrison County, we find Jesse M.
Jamison and Mary, ages 27 and 16, respectively, no children, his occupation
blacksmith. We also find in Harrison County the household of Benjamin
Jamison, age 21, born in Indiana in which are his parents George W. Jamison
and Ellen, ages 48 and 46 born in Tennessee and a James M. Jamison, age 19,
(no doubt Benjamin's brother) and several other siblings. From another
source I know these parents to be George Washington Jamison and Ellen Reno
of White County, Tennessee. James is probably the other "J.M.Jamison" who
appears in the 1860 census.
OK, now a Jesse M. Jamison from Indiana served in the civil war as a member
Co C, 66th Ind Inf Rgt and died at Corinth, Mississippi on 5 Aug 1863. His
widow, Mary, received a widow's pension upon application number 37,169
certificate number 19,999 this dated either Oct 29, 1863 or Oct 29, 1868
(handwriting is a bit difficult to read). If you were to pay for the
pension packet from NARA, it may show when and why the pension was
terminated.
Service Record:
Enlisted as a Private on 19 August 1862
Enlisted in Company C, 66th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 19 August
1862
Died on 05 August 1863 in Corinth, MS
Sources:
Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Indiana. (INRoster)
Published in 1865-66 by Holloway
Now, I don't have anything to show whether or not the James J. Jamison and
the Jesse M. Jamison were brothers. As you probably know, the Indiana index
of marriages to 1850 shows Jesse M. Jamison married Mary E. A. Fortune 18
Sep 1849 in Harrison County, Indiana.
There are other Jamisons in Meacham Twp, Marion County in 1880. One of
these is Ulysses Grant Jamison, b. 1866, (and two brothers) enumerated as
son of Sarah Garner. He also appears in the 1900 census of Meacham Twp.
Does anyone have any information on that family?
Sid
