Joachim Lasus

He was the eldest son of Abraham Gerstl Brüll-Lazar and bore the Hebrew name of Jechiel. Joachim gave his age as 26 in 1791 (b. c1765), but his age at death in 1831 is listed as 72 (b. c1759). An estimated birth year of 1763 is reasonable. Early in life, he is seen as "Joachim Lazar", but in his later years, he is consistently listed as "Joachim Lasus". Nearly all his descendants used the Lasus surname, differentiating themselves from the descendants of his uncle Jacob (who used "Lazar").

Joachim was married twice -- first to a woman named Sorel [aka Rosalia], by whom he had two children (Hanula and Elias), then second to Deborah Steinschneider, by whom he had one surviving son (Samuel). Later in life, Joachim and Deborah separated, and he began a liaison with a much younger woman, Frummet Reichmann (1783-1848). By her, he fathered two illegitimate sons, David Hirsch Lasus (1820-c1891) and Gershon Reichmann (1822-1878). [Gershon's gravestone has been recently recovered. Joachim died in household #35 in Prossnitz, 28 Nov 1831. His widow, Deborah, died on 11 Feb 1850, age about 83. Frummet Reichmann, his companion during his last years, died on 29 Oct 1848, age 65.
