Joachim Stein's patronymic was Joachim Isak. His date of birth is unknown, but when he died on May 20, 1816 he was reportedly 70 years old (b. ~1746). HBM 426 Inv. 431, folio 29, line 2. If so, then he was born around 1746.
Joachim Stein was a Familiant in Chotimer. Chotimer Familiant 5252.4, Folio 67 The Familiant record the married (or was granted permission to marry) Rosina on October 20, 1774. According to the Gubernial Trauung Register (a list of marriage permissions), a man named Joachim Isak was granted permission to marry a woman named Rifka in Chotiemierz (Chotimer) in 1774. Joachim Stein was known by the patronymic Joachim Isak in the 1783 and 1786 Jewish censuses :
By the time of the 1793 census, Joachim Isak had taken the name Joachim Stein and was living in Vyrov, a village near Kanice. 1793 Jewish Census for Klatovy region, page 60. Joachim's age was recorded as 42 (b. ~1751). His wife, Rosina, was listed as being 38 years old (b. ~1755). They had these 5 children:
Although this is the same family, the children's names, ages, and sexes are inconsistent with other records. Systematic records of Jewish births, deaths, and marriages were not kept until around 1790, and the earliest available records for this family date to around 1800. Using these records, this is what can be determined about the children of Joachim and Rosalia Stein:
The 1793 Census recorded three daughters (Tsalke, Katharina, and Feile) and two sons (Markus and Isak), but in later records, there are three sons and two daughters. It is likely that Tsalke was later called Sara/Saly Elisabeth, but there isn't enough information about Eva to guess whether she had been called Katharina or Feile in 1793. Since there was no mention of Jakob in 1793 Census, it is possible that he was mistakenly recorded as one of the daughters. In any case, there is no further information about a third daughter.
