Origins

Thomas Gilbert is named in the Gilbert Tree shown in the Visitation of the County of Devon in 1564 as the son of Otho Gilbert and Elizabeth Hyll and married to Isabella and with children Otho and Joan.[1]

The Inquisition Post Mortem of Thomas Gilberd son and heir of Otho Gilbert was held at Plymton on 18 Oct in the 21 year of the reign of King Henry VIII (=1529) and named his heir as Otho Gilbert aged 16.[2]
