About Joan de Stourton
Not a known daughter of Sir Richard de Vernon, of Nether Haddon
Joan Vernon is recorded in a College of Arms pedigree for Stourton (published by Hoare in his History of Modern Wiltshire Vol 1) which is known to contain errors or fiction. Her first name is confirmed in a chantry founded by her son John de Stourton,[1] however, no contemporary document has been found which confirms her as a Vernon and Complete Peerage (2nd ed., vol. 12, part 1, p. 300) does not give her a surname.
