After Bartholomew's death, she married Thomas Brookes and moved to Henrico County, VA, taking her sons William and Robert with her.

Also known as Jone, Joanah, and Joanna. Her maiden name is in question. It may have been Lewis, and in that case is likely a daughter of Christopher Lewis. After the death of her husband, Bartholomew, she married Thomas Brookes in Jamestown, Virginia. In a deposition dated April 17, 1693, Johanna stated her age as "about 40 years." It is clear that Johanna had at least one son by her second husband, named Thomas Brookes Jr.

WILLIAM ROGERS I, son of JOHN and MARY ROGERS was born about 1657 on the Rogers plantation on the James River in Surry Co. Va. Surry Co Tithables for 1677 showed WILLIAM ROGERS at his father JOHN ROGERS’ home: For 1678 WILLIAM ROGERS at the home of the widow Owen: For 1679 and 1680 WILLIAM ROGERS as head of a household. Thus about 1679 WILLIAM ROGERS married Mrs. Jane Owen widow of Bartholomew Owen. (Jane was adminstratrix of his estate in 1677) (17)

Surry Co. Tithables of 1681 showed WILLIAM ROGERS and Joshua Procter husband of Katherine Owen (daughter of Jane and Bartholomew Owen):(18) For 1682 WILLIAM ROGERS only: For 1683 WILLIAM ROGERS 8. Rob Owen. In 1685 WILLIAM ROGERS and Joshua Proctor were granted 900 acres in Surry Co. For transporting 18 persons. (19) In 1686, after Jane’s death, WILLIAM ROGERS I married second, ELIZABETH CARTWRIGHT, who was named in 1676 in the will of her father ROBERT CARTWRIGHT I of Surry Co. Va. (20) On Sept. 7,1686 WILLIAM ROGERS, husband of ELIZABETH CARTWRIGHT, orphan, receipted for her property to her former guardian, Hezekiah Bunn II. (20) In 1699 ELIZABETH ROGERS and “old" WILLIAM ROGERS were named in the will of her brother Robert Cartwright II of Surry Co. Va. (22) In 1714 WILLIAM ROGERS was granted 220 acres on the south side of Blackwater Swamp in Surry Co. Va. at a corner of the College land. (23)

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF WILLIAM ROGERS

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN.

I, William Rogers, of the Lower Parish of Surry County being not very well but in perfect mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this life and that all men are mortal, I do make this my Last Will and Testament.

First, I bequeath my soul to God that gave it and my body to the Earth from whence it came to be buried after a Christian manner by my executor (viz:)

I give to my son, William Rogers, which I had by my former wife, the valley of five shillings. I give to my son, Benjamin Rogers, the valley of five shillings. I give to my son, Robert Rogers, the valley of five shillings. I give to my daughter, Elizabeth Ellis, the valley of five shillings. I give to my daughter, Mary Bennit, the valley of five shillings. I give to my daughter, Sarah Bennit, the valley of five shillings. I give to my daughter, Perscilla Prochter, the valley of five shillings. I give to my son, JOSEPH ROGERS, the valley of five shillings. I give to my youngest son, William Rogers which I had by my wife, Elizabeth, my plantation and four hundred and fifty acres of land to it and all that is called his in my lifetime. I give to my daughter, Jane Rogers, the valley of five shillings and all that is called hers in my lifetime. I give to my loving wife, Elizabeth Rogers, all the rest of my worldy goods, which it hath pleased God to bless me with all after the Legacies paid of. The above mentioned Will of William Rogers was presented in Court by Elizabeth Rogers, Executrix, thereof who made Oath thereto and gave bond with security according to law and being proven by the oathes of Priscilla Thomas and T. Washington witnesses thereto. The same is Ordered to be recorded and is recorded by:
