About Joel Allen Battle, Jr.
Joel A. Battle, Jr. was the gifted and talented adjutant of the Twentieth Regiment Tennessee Volunteers. His father, Colonel Joel Allen Battle, Sr., commanded the regiment.
Joel A. Battle, Jr was killed in action at the Battle of Shiloh after doing his duty all day on the field of battle with one arm in a sling, from the effects of a wound that he had received at the battle of Fishing Creek.
His half-brother, William Searcy Battle was also killed in the Battle of Shiloh while serving under his father.

Joel married Dorothy Harness Renick [c1842 Ohio - ?] on 12 Jan. 1860 in Ross County, Ohio. To them was born a son also named Joel Allen Battle on 4 Jan. 1861 in Chillicothe [Ross Co.] Ohio. Old Northwest Genealogical Quarterly, 1906, vol. 9, page 159
