From : 1. Census records, Hamilton Twp., Franklin Co., PA -- 1790 to 1830 has David CRAFT or CROFT. 2. Biographical Annals of Franklin Co, PA by Seilhamer, 1905, p. 245, gives dates & parents for David & Catherine, and says he "owned four farms in Hamilton township, near Emanuel Church, on one of which he lived." 3. Atlas of Franklin Co., PA, Pomeroy & Beers, 1868 -- Maps of Hamilton & Letterkenny townships show Emanuel Church at the north edge of Hamilton Twp. at the boundary with Letterkenny. Nearby is the Hamilton Twp. farm of "A. Croft", land owned in 1868 by Abraham, son of David Croft. This was the original homestead. 4. The Croft Family History of Franklin County, PA, probably written by Rev. Samuel Croft, MD, about 1905. Says David Croft "was a cooper by trade and an excellent workman. He purchased a tract of land from the proprietors [Penns] in Hamilton Twp., near what is now Emanuels U.B Church, of 132 acres and 159 perch and allowances, which was surveyed Nov. 30, 1789 on a warrant to David Croft dated Sept. 1, 1787. The farm was inherited by David's son Abraham...David purchased another farm from Thomas Wilson and wife Hannah, on April 4, 1799. This tract lay south of and joined the first purchase. In later years it was inherited by his grandson John F. Croft , son of Samuel. David moved onto this farm and lived there the rest of his life." 6. PA Probate Records 1683-1994 on line, Franklin Co PA, Will Index 1784-1952, Vol A-Z, Image 147, p 253< #4801 & Wills 1826-1853, Vol D-E, Image 352, p 108-109, Vol E: Testator David Kroft of Hamilton Tp written 9 May 1839 Codicil added 30 Sept. 1841. & signed by David Kroft with a very unlegible signature. His son Abraham was the Executor. Names all his children & husbands of the daughters. David was living in 1839 with Elizabeth, widow of his deceased son Samuel Croft, and her young son John "Kroft". John was to have "in fee simple" the farm of Samuel when he reached 21 yrs. His son Abraham received "the plantation whereon he now resides." David had sold other land to two sons-in-law, Samuel Coldsmith & Jacob Heckman, and those "bonds" were mentioned.
