Johann George Meiser, I

JOHANN GEORGE MEISER I 3/1, son of Johann Michael Meiser 2/2 (Johan Jurg Meisser 1/1) and Elizabeth Sixt (Zecht), was born at Millbach, Pennsylvania on the original Meiser Homestead in ca. 1724 and died ca. 1793.

He married Anna Feak sometime before 1747 as on September 7, 1747, he baptized his first born child, Johann Michael, at the Millbach Reformed Church.

George was reared on the original homestead which he inherited from his father via will dated 1745. For some reason the will was never probated, but through “Letters of Administra- tions” the title passed to him November 23, 1749 (Lancaster 1-M). He lived on this farm all his life, reared a fine family, and became quite successful. German was the language of the region and of his home, but he realized the importance of being fluent in the official colonial language, English. Therefore he engaged private tutors for his children so they would become proficient in the English language. He was very active in church work, serving as one of the first lay leaders in the Millbach Reformed Church. He also was superintendent of the Sunday school for a number of years. During the war for independence, it has been written that George was a color bearer in the Battle of Brandywine.

No will was found for George I, but on October 6, 1793, he and his wife } Anna, turned over four tracts of land in what was then Heidelberg Township, County of Dauphin, Pennsyl- vania, to their children. This information was from the original deeds and Releases.

CHILDREN:

4/1 Johann Michael Meiser, baptized in the Millbach Church on September 7, 1747, apparently died prior to October 16, 1793, as he did not share in the distribution (Release) of his father’s lands.
