Johan Adam Michiel van Breda b1c5d10 (~8.11.1801) was the 10th child of Alexander van Breda, b1c5 Alexander van Breda, Alexander’s 2nd child with his second wife Helena Hendrina Michiels.

He married Aletta Cornelia Anna de Waal in the Swartland on 30/7/1827. (She * 9/5/1808 Koeberg, ~28/8/1808, + 29/1/1856 Cape Town aged 47). They had 7 children:

1. Aletta Cornelia *19.5.1828 ~ Durbanville 20.7.1828, died before 29/1/1856
2. Helena Hester Jacoba * 21.12.1830 x Jacob Pieter van Reenen, s/o Daniel
3. Adriaan de Waal *17/9/1832 ~ Durbanville 21.10.1832, shop owner, x Worcester 27.05.1856 Margaretha Catharina Justina SWANEVELDER * 26 09 1836 † 25 08 1898 d/o Hendrik Erhard Swanevelder and Catharina Johanna Stofberg
4. Elizabeth * 11.11.1834, ~ 14.12.1834 Cape Town, died before 29/1/1856
5. Alexander * 9.3.1836, ~ 17.4.1836 Cape Town, x Worcester 21.12.1858 Catharina Johanna Maria SWANEVELDER * c. 1839 † Kimberley 27 10 1878 d/o Hendrik Erhard Swanevelder and Catharina Johanna Stofberg.
6. Elizabeth Grundlingh *1.4.1839, ~ 5.5.1839 Cape Town. She had an illegitimate son Johan Hendrik van Breda *06.08.1869, ~Worcester 07.11.1869.
7. Jan Adam Michielse *20.4.1843 ~ Cape Town 21.5.1843, † Groot Zanddrift, Napier 22 03 1914 x Napier 26.2.1867 Maria Magdalena van Dyk *1847 d/o Michiel Burgert van Dyk

Johan Adam Michiel owned the farm Welgedaan in Table Valley. Its splendid georgianised homestead, Hatfield House, was unfortunately demolished by the Provincial Administration in the late 1960’s.
