About Johan van der Nest
Johan van der Nest (1964 - 2014)
Brief overview:
Johan (50), was found lying on the ground, at the Engen Garage in Birchleigh, around 04h00, on Saturday 1st March 2014. He had suffered severe head injuries. The people who found him called an ambulance and he was taken to Tembisa Hospital. Johan had been at the Prime Time Sports bar on Elgin Road, where he and a friend had been watching rugby. His daughter, Nicole Cunningham, said that they were walking back to their respective homes, and that was the last they heard anything about her father for 10 days. The next thing they knew was that his body was in the hospital mortuary.
Johan's wallet had obviously been stolen as he had no identification when he was taken to hospital, hence the hospital could not contact his next of kin. He died a few days later on 4th March. A post mortem was done and it was established that Johan died of trauma to the head. It is suspected he was hit with a metal pipe or a blunt object.
