Johan (54), of Garsfontein, Pretoria, was shot in the head when he attempted to stop a gang of males from trying to steal his vehicle. Three shots were fired at Johan, but missed, the forth bullet hit Johan in the head.

According to his girlfriend, Corné, she heard the shots and called the police, then found out the garage door was open and broken into and she believed Johan ran after them when they fled and that is when they turned and shot him.
