"John Peter Albaugh & Leah Cook Albaugh & their children came from Maryland to Ohio. On arriving in Ohio, they first settled on the farm now owned by Fred Brandt. This is the third farm on the Kilgore-Scio Road. Here they became near neighbors of his (John Peter Albaugh's) brother, Morris, who had come to Ohio in the year 1802." ~~taken from the paperwork that my father gave to me before he died in 2017 entitled "An Outline of the Albaugh Family" written by John G. Roof who is the son of Elizabeth Albaugh Roof.

Birth: May 17, 1762 Frederick County Maryland, USA Death: May 16, 1833 Kilgore Carroll County Ohio, USA

His obituary in the Carroll Gazette, Carrollton, Ohio, May 23, 1833, page 2.

How pleasing the task to record the death of a Christian: to take a retrospective view of an aged Father through the varied scenes of three score and ten years. How pleasing to record the death of one who, from youth to manhood, from manhood to three score and from thence to three score and ten, has left many bright examples worthy of imitation, to find of vices few, of virtues many. Morris Allbaugh Esq. departed this life on the 16th inst. after having finished an earthly pilgrimage of 71 years. In early life he emigrated from New Jersey, his native State, under the guidance of respectable parents to the State of Maryland where he spent his youthful days and part of manhood; and after marriage removed from thence to the State of Ohio, in 1803, and located in what was then called Jefferson, after wards Harrison, but now Carroll County. In common with those who commenced a residence in Ohio he despaired not; having in early youth made a profession of religion which then, and through life assured him that those "who labor shall reap if they fait not." For many years he discharge the duties of a Magistrate with honor to himself, partiality to none, and satisfaction to all; gained to him, not without just cause, the appellation of "The Christian Peace Maker." While exercising the duties of his office, the good of is country was always kept in view, and every transgression met with speedy punishment or reproof as the case merited. In litigations his exertions were first used to gain a compromise, rather than the point in dispute should be decided by law; fully convinced that a compromise was calculated to cement the ties of friendship, while on the other hand, contention created animosity. By his death the Lutheran Church as lost a valuable member, Christianity and exemplary advocate and society one of its faithful pillars. Though deprived of a finished education he possessed in an eminent degree those principles which make the man and the Christian; in manners he was agreeable, sin conversation profitable, in disposition mild; to the providence of God resigned: possessed of a strong, steady realizing faith; charitable to the poor and needy, a supporter of useful institutions, a friend to his country & a devout worshipper of God. "Possessed of sense, and taste refined; Candor with prudence blended: A feeling heart-- a virtuous mind, With charity attended." His last illness, though of several months duration, was endured with Christian fortitude; and with reason unimpaired, could take a view of the past and a glance of the future. To his mental view the Jordan of Death presented nothing terrible. "In that stream there's nothing frightful, To its brink my steps I bend, Thence to plunge will be delightful, There my pilgrimage will end." The remains of the venerable man were conveyed to their "resting place" followed by a number of weeping children and grandchildren, who will long feel the loss. Let them strive to Profit by the Christian example of the deceased parent, and like him he prepared, to hail death in Triumph.
