Johann Christoph Bach Jr. BIRTH 29 Aug 1676 Eisenach, Stadtkreis Eisenach, Thüringen, Germany DEATH 1738 (aged 61–62) Thüringen, Germany BURIAL Non-Cemetery Burial, Specifically: Buried somewhere in Thuringia, Germany MEMORIAL ID 132887209 · View Source
MEMORIAL PHOTOS 0 FLOWERS 8 He married Anna Hoffman, in 1707 or 1708.
He was a second cousin to the famous musician and composer, Johann Sebastian Bach. (They shared great grandfathers.)
Johann Christoph could play music, but he was not really interested in it, and he did not want to play for people, like most of his ancestors did. Instead, he taught music, but only when he needed some money.
Johann Christoph was a vagabond. He traveled around, all of his life, never really settling anywhere, and never really making a home for his family. He lived in various places, in Germany, Holland, and England.
He desperately wanted to go to America, and so he and his family lived in a camp near London for many years, trying to secure passage on a ship. But he was never able to do so. They later returned to Thuringia.
He was a second cousin to Johann Sebastian Bach, because they shared the same great grandparents (Johann Hans Bach and Ann Schmied). Also, his first cousin was Maria Barbara Bach, who married Johann Sebastian Bach. (Maria's father was a brother to Johann Christoph's father.)
