Ambrosius Bach had a twin brother named Johann Christoph, who served as a court and municipal musician in Arnstadt. “Both brothers were so similar to each other in everything, even in terms of health and musical abilities, that if they were together, they could only be distinguished by their clothes. Everyone was amazed at this, and gentlemen and common people, even their own wives could hardly distinguish them. " This Johann Christoph had two sons, also outstanding musicians. But the most talented of the Bach family were at that time the children of the Arnstadt organist Heinrich Bach. One of them, Johann Christoph, was the Eisenach court organist, the second, Johann Michael (later Sebastian's father-in-law) was an organist in Guerin. About this Johann Christophe in the "Obituary" it is said that "... he wrote church music in twenty-two obligate voices, not allowing the slightest mistake in the perfect harmony of sounds; it is as surprising as the fact that he always played on the organ and on the clavier with at least five independent voices. "....У Амброзия Баха был брат-близнец по имени Иоганн Кристоф, служивший в Арнштадте придворным и муниципальным музыкантом. «Оба брата так походили друг на друга во всем, даже в отношении здоровья и музыкальных способностей, что если они были вместе, различить их можно было только по одежде. Все удивлялись этому, и господа, и простой люд, даже их собственные жены с трудом различали их». У этого Иоганна Кристофа было двое сыновей, тоже выдающихся музыкантов. Но самыми талантливыми из семьи Бахов считались в то время дети арнштадтского органиста Генриха Баха. Один из них, Иоганн Кристоф, был эйзенахским придворным органистом, второй, Иоганн Михаэль (впоследствии тесть Себастьяна) – органистом в Герене. Об этом Иоганне Кристофе в «Некрологе» говорится, что «…он написал церковную музыку на двадцать два облигатных голоса, не допустив ни малейшей ошибки в совершеннейшей гармонии звуков; это столь же удивительно, как и то, что на органе и на клавире он всегда играл по крайней мере пятью самостоятельными голосами». «Следовало бы удивляться тому, как мало были известны эти славные люди за пределами своей родины, если бы мы не учитывали того, что эти честные тюрингцы были настолько довольны своей родиной и своим положением, что им и в голову не приходило искать счастья на чужбине».
