About Johann Christoph Leitt
It appears that Johann Christoph's son, Friedrich Ludwig Christian Leitt , went to Netherlands and enrolled with the VOC (Dutch Eastindia Company) as a soldier to be stationed at the Cape of Good Hope. As was the custom at the time, the spelling of Friedrich's name was changed from Leitt to Luyt to suit the Dutch. He started the Luyt family in South Africa. Jn
