In the book "We Will Go to a New Land, The Great East Frisian Migration to America by Robert H Behrens, Publ 1998 it states the following for J F Dirksen, Memorial #64985592.. Johann F Dirksen emigrated to the USA from Jennelt, Ostfriesland in 1866. He settled in Pekin and obtained work as a design painter at the Pekin Wagon Works. Dirksen was a devout churchgoer who helped build the Second Reformed Church of which he was a member. On 15 October 1892, Johann Dirksen married Antje geb. Conrady, the widow of Bernhardt Ailts. A native of Loquard, Ostfriesland, she had come to the USA with her brother in 1873. To this union were born three sons, one of whom was Everett McKinley Dirksen, the great United States senator and statesman. Johann F Dirksen was born 9 Feb 1842 and died in 1905. Antje Dirksen geb. Conrady was born 23 January 1853, the daughter of John and Tena Conrady. She died in 1923. Antje and Johann Dirksen are interred in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
