Record tracing the ancestors of Somerset families who mostly emigratedfrom Scotland.
Before considering this matter of the location of "our Christian Lutheranmeeting at Raritons" in 1714 further, it may be well to continueFalckner's record for later years, to see if it throws more light uponthe subject. As has been stated, this 1714 visit was but the beginning ofFalckner's visits to Somerset so far as appears by his record, as everyyear after 1714 until 1722 (the year before his death), he came hither tobaptize, and no doubt to preach. His baptismal records in New York andNew Jersey from 1703 until 1722 (the first in New Jersey was at"Hackingsack" in 1704), have, fortunately, been preserved, and while, ofcourse, such records do not mention preaching, it could not have beenotherwise than that he had services. Such services, however, were, apparently, usually in the houses of Germans, and I judge that noLutheran Church buildings, even of logs, had been erected in Somersetduring his ministry, "Raritan in the Hills" probably excepted.
The full list of these baptisms in this locality are accessible to anyreader through their publication in the 1903 "Yearbook" of the HollandSociety of New York. I shall not take up space now to give them in full, but the following resume‚ of those pertinent to this article will throwlight on where Falckner found parishioners and children to baptize foreach year named:
In 1716, June 17, "at Nine-Mile Run, in the house of Matthias Reinbold,"children of Daniel Schoemaker, Simeon Vocht, Pieter Appleman, MichaelHinschutt [now Hendershot], Joseph Risch, Laurens Ruloffsen and PieterPool.
In 1720, Aug. 7, "on the Raritons, in our meeting in the house of BaldusPickel," children of Joh. Peter Fuchs [Fox], John Jurgen Puff, MichelHunneschutt [Hendershot], Simon Vocht, Andreas Rose and JohannesSchwalluw [Swallow].

They settled first in New York; then in New Jersey on the Millstone near the forks of the Raritan and Millstone, Hunterdon County; then in New Germantown [now Oldwick].

He was a violin builder.

Wittwer, Norman C., The Faithful and the Bold, Oldwick, NJ, 1984 Michael immigrated from Rotterdam to London in July 1709 and to New York and to New York in 1710, arriving in June. He moved to the Raritan Valley of New Jersey in 1712. He and his wife are listed as being among a group that in all probability attended the first service of the church which was the for-runner of the Oldwick Church. Note: This reference has a whole chapter on the migration.

A new list I found of the Hendershot geneaology had two Michaels, two Johann Peters and another John,

Because of the “Thirty Years War”, Michael (Von Hayderschatte) Henneschied and his wife Kathrine Ann fled with thousands of other Germans to England. On December 29, 1709, they left Plymouth, England for America abord the sailing vessel “Lyon”. The ship was in a group of ten that left together. One ship was driven back to Plymouth during a terrible storm. Another ship over turned in Plymouth Harbor drowning all of the passengers. Over 700 passengers died on this six month voyage, the ones that survived were all diseased. Michael and Katherine along with their three children were among the last to land from the Lyon on Governors Island, New York, June 13, 1710.

The family moved and settled in New Jersey on the Millstone river. Here, their fourth child out of seven, Michael Jr., was born in America on August 3, 1712. The family moving a short time later to Oldwick, New Jersey - known at the time as Germantown. Their house still stands in Oldwick and they are buried in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church yard.

Michael Jr. married Elizabeth Shermerhorn and had eight children. The fouth was named Jacob. It has been noted that Jacob and two of his brothers, Michael and William, fought in the Revolutionay war as 'minute men'.
