About Johann John M. Scheidler
Came to America from Waldthurn, Germany in 1949, settling in Cincinnati, Ohio.
IN May 1845 at the age of 19, he became a journeyman wagonwright to complete his training. He worked in various cities in Bavaria, including Ebersberg, Regensburg and Munich. After serving efficiently under a half dozen master craftsmen, returned home on April 7, 1848 from Kelheim.
He arrived in the U.S. in 1849 bringing his two sisters with him.
They lived in Cincinnati from 1850 to 1862. During this time six of their 13 children were born. The first three, Adam, George and John survived. The next three, including the only girl in the family, died in infancy.
In 1862 the family moved to Millhousen, Indiana, where seven additional children were born. In Millhousen a prosperous business was established in which the sons learned the trade and joined with their father in the maintenance and expsion of the shop. Here the father and his sons, skilled in every form of wood and iron work, made and repaired many of the objects for which the community had need - furniture, construction of a farm wagon, make or paint a buggy, repair a broken farm machine, temper a steel drill or shoe a horse.
All the sons reared their families in Millhousen, except for Adam, who settled in Earl Park, Indiana.p
