Johann Georg Weishaar, who came to the American colonies in 1753 from the Alsace region of France (or Germany, depending on who was in control at the time and where the river flowed) and changed his name to John George Whitehair.
His son - John August Christian Whitehair, followed the Potomac River into Virginia (what is now Preston Co., West Virginia) and thus began one "trunk" of a very large and diverse Whitehair family tree in West Virginia.
