About Johanna Rebecca Erickson
She was my g grandmother. Her father was born in Sweden. He was a child prodigy and could speak 6 languages fluently. He invented and slide rule and a snowplow and was a surveyor by trade when he came to Utah. He worked for the University of Utah, appears in the picture of the meeting of the US transcontinental railroad near Corinne, Utah, and did the surveying on several borders of Utah and surrounding states. He changed the spelling of his name when he moved to new countries. For example, in England he was called Charles Lewis Erickson. 2 older sons have the spelling Ericzon as their last name.
Petronella Bengtsson was his 3rd wife. She was the only one in her family who joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her nickname was "Nellie." She worked as a housekeeper for a bishop in Salt Lake City and her work was so good that she was able to work even though could not speak English. She and Carl and their children spoke Swedish in their home in Mill Creek, Utah. They have 5 children together.
The first two were boys and they both died as infants, then they had 3 girls. The girls were like stairsteps when they grew up. Johanna Rebecca, my g grandma was the shortest, but she was very healthy and had a large family.
