Johannes Cornelissen (1983 – 2014)
Brief overview:
Johannes Cornelissen was fatally shot during an armed robbery at Ant and Elephant Lodge on the Sabie Road on 14 February 2014.
He was hit in the right side of the chest and post-mortem results had not yet been revealed. Cornelissen and his wife, Karin were renting a self-catering unit. At approximately 21:28, he noticed that someone was opening the curtains in the lounge from outside and saw two armed men. They tried to open the front door and fired a shot through a window next to it. After gaining entry to the unit several more were fired and Cornelissen was hit. Karin managed to get away to obtain help. She passed a few tenants who were at the swimming pool and informed them of the incident. They activated the panic button and notified the Sabie Valley Community Security. She continued running towards the nearby pub, Tanks, where her boss, Mr Dirk Ingram and his wife, Adelle were. Ingram and two other men rushed to the unit to provide assistance, however, Cornelissen had already died and the criminals fled.
