On the internet I also found him married to a Christina Setsler.

He and his wife were immigrants from Rotenberg, Germany, in 1749, who settled in the Dutch Fork area of South Carolina near Pomera. His last name was also show with the spellings, EPTIN and APTIN. ---

"The Carolina Gazette reported in its 9 Oct 1916, 1 Issue that the ship Griffin had enters the port at Charles Town (SC). It had arrived from London. (Issue Number 8 S.C. Department of archives and history, microfilm drawer 45.

On Thursday, 19 Oct, 1749, John Adam Epting was one of the German petitioners for land in S.C. who attended the Meeting of the S.C. Council. "The Board being informed that some more of the Palantines lately arrived was attending they were ordered in and being sworn to be faithful and bear true allegiance ti his Maj(esty) King George II, and being likewise sworn to the number of persons in their respective families and their several ages." (Petitions for Land from the S.C. Council Journals Brent H. Holcomb, page 84, Vol. II.)

John Adam Epting received 250 acres and bounty for (persons) Prior to 1755 land was granted on a "headright" of 50 acres per person whether male, female, free, slave, black or white. (British Public Record Office film, Vol. 24, page 312, instructions to Gov. Ja,es Glen in March 1750 according to the number of persons....50 acres each person.
