About Johannes Heggland
Johannes Heggland (June 29, 1919 – January 24, 2008) was a Norwegian novel writer, short story writer, children's writer, playwright, farmer and politician from Tysnes. He made his literary debut in 1941 with Folk under fjell, and has later written more than sixty books.
Political and administrative tasks
Heggland was mayor in Tysnes from 1956 to 1959, and again from 1968 to 1971. He was chairman of Den norske Forfatterforening 1982 – 1985[1] and member of the Nordic Council's literary prize committee 1983 – 1986. He was member of the Norwegian Language Council and board member for Riksteatret.
Awards
Heggland received a number of National literary awards for his writing. He was awarded the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav (Knight, First Class) for his cultural work.
