Johannes "John" Schenbach Benner

Johannes was born in Lambsheim, Ludwigshafen, Rheimland-Pfalz, Germany in 1725 to Esaias Bender and Maria Margaretha Schenbach.

At the age of eighteen he and his brother, Johann Sebastian Benner, came to Pennsylvania on the Ship Lydia captained by James Abercrombie. They landed in Philadelphia on September 19, 1743 having sailed from Rotterdam, Holland.

He marrried Elizabeth ? and purschased a 225 acre farm in Montgomery County in the Franconia area. He build a log home two hundred feet from the a stream that runs into the Skippack Creek where he raised flax, wheat, oats, and indian corn.

As Mennonites he and his brother, Johann Sebastian Benner, appeared in 1759 in a Philadelphia court to affirm their allegiance to the crown of England. Mennonites did not believe in swearing an oath but were willing to affirm their oath.

He and his wife, Elizabeth, had seven known childrren. They were Catherine Benner born Oct. 28, 1750 and married to Abraham Alderfer; Marie magdalena Benner born 1753 married Yellis Cassel; Abraham Benner born about 1755 married Barbara Hunsberger; Anna Benner born 1757 married Henry Johnson; Christian Benner born 1759 married Mary ?; Elikzabeth Benner born 1760; Ludwig Benner.
